High octane gas and cold starting....

Anyone had this problem befor? i was thinkin my car has power issues when its started cold because of Premium gas and the Rotary's nature to have difficulties igniting the fuel until warmed , what octane is everyone using, i figure next time i fill it up ill start puting 87 in im sure it would be alot less fussy when cold since it should have no problems igniting the fuel... then again its a 23 year old sports car...

A quick search would have revealed you are wasting your $$$ by getting any gas with a higher octane than 87...as Pele (or was it the long unheard from peejay??) pointed out many moons ago, the flame front has a hard enough time getting propagated as it is, why make it harder with higher octane gas which resists easy burning to prevent pre-ignition?? I love the fact that I can get the cheap stuff, especially now...$1.53/gal for the sexy rexy vs $1.72 for 93 octane which the CBird needs...

simply said:

High Octance (expensive) gas = harder to burn, so makes cold starting harder, and possibly loss of power and carboning up

Low Octane (el cheapo) = perfect for rotary (easier to burn, less chance of carboning up)

so low octane gas is perfect for cheapo RX-7 owners (yes, the ones that won't shell out the extra dough, so they go with a CARTER fuel pump instead...)

Fill 'er up with 87 please!
