price port

Hi,
When people say it costs about $300 bucks to get a motor street ported does this price include getting the engine out and opening it up? If not how much does this add?

Yes thats just the cost of porting

As you are in Adelaide I suggest you talk with Rotary .Automotive Services {Mildren Racing} for a price. As a very rough guide it costs in the order of $600 to take an engine out and replace. Stripping it down and porting is in the order of another $1000. As you will be adding more power it will be best to rebuild the engine. Your all up cost is then in the order of $Aus 3000 upwards depending what needs replacing, of which the actual cost of porting is minor. These are order of magnitude costings, you might get someone to do a cheaper job.

This is why most people only consider porting when they rebuild.

Thanks, Yeah I thought so. I allways use Mildren's! My engines got 100psi, so don't want to rebuild yet! Hmm, back to the drawing board on how to make more power!

Browney- - so you bought the black s2 rather tha the yellow s2 as detailes in one of your earlier threads.

You said it had a 13b out of a T11, do you mean a gen 2 as a TII would have a low compression rotor? It seems strange that anyone would backdate an efi 13b to a carb set-up. I know you started a thread on the age of a 13b, could it have been out of a pre RX-7 car?.

Hey your stalking me
Yeah bought the black one. I decided that the thing I cared about most was the condition of the body! It is out of a TII and yes it has low compression rotors. Mildrens built it (another reason why I liked it, they do good work) and they use this set up a lot. They say that the lower comp rotors don't make a huge difference (like 10hp).

Don't get me wrong I would love to have s5 NA rotors in it, But if having higher compression rotors swapped in only gives about 10hp then it is not really worth it. There are better mods for the money. Who knows one day I might want to go turbo! Would going back to EFI (as the engine was designed for) give much of a performance increase and how expensive is it?

For a start you would want a new ecu and two injectors. Have a look on www.dysonrotary.com.au for typical prices but second injectors may be around.

The improvement in power output of reinstalling efi would be small, and you would need plenty of dyno time to get it tuned. Mildren should be able to give you a quote as they carry out work for you. AS you already have turbo rotors have you thought of having a carb blow thru system- it would you greater power for a reasonable price compared with going efi.

I wasn't "stalking" you ,I just remembered my original response to your request for advice on the two cars. I use a weekender at Goolwa on a regular basis so show an interest in SA matters in SA

I know, I was only kidding (hence the )
I've been told that a blow through set up wouldn't be street registerabe and aren't that good (poor response). Could I go efi first then at a later date go turbo using the same ecu and injectors?
