you'd be surprised! not all vacuum leaks cause idle to drop, sometimes it raises it.

anyway, is the car a 12A/carbie or SE? if it's 12A what kind of intake are you running?

Try this, the next time you have a high idle.

When the car is idling, put your right foot toes under the accelerator pedal and pull it up. If the idle drops back to normal then you have a sticky likage problem.

Mine does the same thing, idling about 1100 when it's hot. If I pull it up it drops down to 700 or so.

Check the accelerator cable housing where it goes into the adjusting mechanism next to the carberator. Mine pulls out of that barrel sometimes and causes a high idle.

Check your timing first off, before you adjust anything. I had the same problem (as well as bad gas mileage) and it was a bad ignitor. Once your timing is good, check both float bowls for flooding. Make sure that the fuel line is centered at idle. Make sure you don't have a broken ignition wire. A lot of times, people will crank up the idle or tweak the timing to cover up a problem. Also, make sure your throttle cable has some slack to it.
