HIDs
I've located some complete HID upgrade kits - real, made-as-HID-and-DOT-approved kits, not modded HID bulbs slapped into H4 reflector crap - and am thinking of a twin-lamp (70mm each) sleepy kit or a 7" round direct-replacement configuration.
The catch is each kit is just under a grand USD - which is what some people pay for the SA or FB chassis, nevermind headlights for same....

Interesting to think these HID kits are worth more than the total custom and hand made carbon fibre hoods he was producing not that long ago...thousand clams is way too much for the level of upgrade involved here. You simply don't need THAT much more light unless you're a hard core SCCA rally driver...

Carmen has been certified (and has Pam's engine/tranny under the hood!), but isn't on the road yet - it's still winter here and I've other priorities.
My associate Pat flew out to Ontario and checked out their shop, credentials, etc. It's a small company trying to position themselves as an OEM supplier (that part of Canada supplies a lot of Detroit. Magna, f'rinstance, is the largest privately owned OEM supplier in the world) The lighting engineer is brilliant and has designed various models around a standard 70mm set, varying the housing so all installs are clean and relatively stock-looking, except putting a 70mm unit in what was designed to be a 7" round means they create a black plastic filler panel (see pic on the Hummer install).
Instead of putting in a single 7" round that bulges out (since the back is designed to be stock depth of a regular 7" round, and HIDs are longer than incandescents) and therefore has clearance issues for the front of the lamp, I thought going to twin 70mm (HID low, halogen high) in a sleepy-eye config would be better. No fitment issues, just screw in the new bracket and plug-and-play the electrics.

Corvette install:
BTW DirectFreak - I saw a Porsche steering wheel with tiptronic buttons on it and thought it'd look cool in your car Too bad you'd have to custom-machine splines to fit it onto an RX-7 column...

Okay, I just have to say this out loud. Installing relays into your headlight system makes an unbelievable difference in lighting output. Total cost can be as low as $20.00 or so, and installation can take less than one hour.
It's all about getting the full power to the lights, rather than losing it all by going through all of the small gauge wiring that runs through the switchs and stuff. A small drop in amperage to the lights makes a huge difference in performance. Check out www.danielsternlighting for details on this loss. I started this mod only half believing what I read, but having seen the difference I am now a true believer. I cannot imagine needing more lighting than I currently have now, and only use my 130 watt spots when speeds exceed 100 mph now. BTW, I'm also using Phillips Xtra vision bulbs (stay away from anything "blue").
HID lights are bright and sexy, sure, and if I had that kind of money laying around and nothing else on my car needed improvement then maybe I would consider it.

Unfortunately, no one makes a dual headlight setup for our cars except CP Racing, and they're just plain crap (Both the company AND their setup). I prefer rectangular lenses for low and high.

I'd like two 70mm rounds, HID kinda kicks the price up too much though...
What ever happened to your store? I wanted to get the stereo install braket.
And I noticed your icon for "How To" is my diagram for the anti-theft device. :p

In order for that to happen, though, I need the manufacturer to make non-bulge covers similar ot the Corvette setup (but with 2 separate lights, so it can also be used in FDs, Esprits, etc.)
Pele - I thought your diagram captured the term 'modding' in a single image. If you want, I'll replace it with something else.

Hey, if you come across an interesting "dual headlight per" setup, let us know. I'm always interested in a headlight mod providing it looks clean. Or, I'll just go with the next closest and do the H4 conversion.

And even when I build/sell stuff it's usually sold at or close to cost - it's more about sharing info and stuff with fellow rotorheads, which is what your post contributed to.
Pele - thanks! It'll stayt as-is then.
