Hi, thinking about buying an rx7

Hi. I'm new here and to rx7's in general, but I'm looking to buy an 84 gsl rx7 and had some questions.
First off, the interier is SMALL! I'm ~6'2 and the steering wheel is almost pressing into my legs, so I was wondering how cheap/feasable it is to make the seat go back maybe 2 more notches, like modding the rails or replacing them all together, and perhaps replace the stearing wheel with something smaller. That's the main concern at the moment.
Secondly, if I do end up buying it, I'll have about $1-2000 to spend on performance parts. Probably on suspension, brakes, clutch to start. But I was wondering about engine mods or perhaps a swap to hopefull get it into the 150-200hp range.
Thank you for any and all help you can give me

Check out the first gen. faq page at the top. Welcome to the forum. Oh, and make sure you look for rust everywhere like the wheel wells, under the storage bins, pretty much everywhere.

Welcome to the forum. There are alot of threads that have covered all of what you are looking for. As time goes on you will learn how to use the search function at the top of the page and the archives. But for now i will give you some useful info.

I'm taller then you and although i have to adjust my seat to get the best comfort i still have learned to be comfortable. Rotary engineering used to sell extension kits for the seat but i have not see them in a long time. I have to guess that you are a portly guy if the steering wheel is that close to you. I do not recommend a smaller steering wheel. I did run at one time recaro seats in my FB and they sat alot lower and gave me tons of room.

If yo do purchase the car the first thing i recommend to everyone to first go thru the car and get it fully serviced and safetied BEFORE any mods.
After that the highest HP gain that you will get is by putting on a header system. After that the carb change will get you to the 150-160hp range. To get anymore you would have to either have the motor ported or go turbo and that gets expensive.

Well, thank you for the welcome. I had used the the search feature previously to learn about engine swaps but did not think there would be as much info on getting the seat to move back farther. I was wrong, though.
I'm taking it into a machanic on friday to make sure all is well with it, check out rust, machanical whatnot, but if its a sound chasis, I'm thinking about putting some work into it anyway.
And btw, I'm not really "portly," steering wheel would be in my legs even if I was skinnier.
Thanks for the info on the header/carb, don't think I need much more hp than that right now.

I hated that damn 18 wheeler steering wheel, so I replaced it with a Momo Corse which is like 12.5 inch steering wheel and I love it.

I have a Mikuni, RBV exhaust and 2GCDFIS and make a solid 150 hp and get 24 mpg, very happy, but going for more power soon, lol

Your plan to do brakes, suspension, clutch is sensible, I have done all of my steering linkages, brakes, shocks and springs, making the car a pleasure to drive. Poly is an easy upgrade for bushings and makes a significant difference.

Read a lot and make educated choices this will save you money, my car owes me about $2K right now and its a lot of fun, paint is due though....
