Hi from Nubie, is this a good deal?

A friend of mine owes me money, but for reasons I am ok with, he can't pay me back right now. He does however have an 82' RX7 that he doesn't drive and is willing to sell for $500 (what he paid for it)

It needs a new starter and the rear brake lights dont work (easy fix for me) What do you guys think of the deal? He says it's a rare 82' with 4 wheel disc brakes.

I really don't need another car that doesn't do over 15mpg (BMW gets 14mpg, and Pathfinder gets 15mpg) but I was thinking it would be fun to turn into a track car. I've tracked my 540 before (autocross) and while it was fun, it's VERY expensive and any modifications cost an arm and a leg. correct me if I'm wrong, but this RX7 should be cheap to mod right? (I mean Dinan want's 10k for a supercharger for my car while I've seen 12a turbo kits on eBay for less than 1k)

yup they are pretty cheap to do some basic modifications, I wouldnt say that cars rare though theres still alot of them around... But the rear brake lights not working could just be a fuse under the hood release... If she runs good then go for it!

Um? he owes you money... so he's going to sell you a car? Give him the backhand and have him sign over the title. Or maybe the other way around.

'82 RX7s aren't necessarily rare, but the model with 4-wheel discs, ie: the GSL was the top of the line model for that year.

If the car is in excellent condition it could be worth $2500 tops. If it's not in good shape but the body is in decent condition with clear title and no liens it's worth $500 easily.

$500 bucks for a fair/good GSL in need of only a starter is fine. You can get a used FC/na or FB starter for under 50 bucks and the install takes all of 1 hour tops.

by sell I mean take $500 off what he owes me. I'm going to go take a look at it now.

Thanks for the info all. If that is really all that's wrong with it, then I think I'll do it. This should be fun!
