Hi-Lights, Driving Lights,,

Do you have hi-lights,or driving lights.what kind,? what wattage?
and where did you place them ? What work better,,square, round,
what i would really like are some aircraft landing lights.I used to
have some in my mustang's grill light buckets, round, cops made me remove them and somewhere along the way they got lost.
I guess i'm going to need square's to fit in the front end though.
What do you all think ????? And oh,, did you do any wiring
precautions to keep from frying any wires ??

Smile What to do?

It's a puzzler, Eh Buckaroo?

I've been debating the same thing. Since my head requires that function before form, it's an interesting quandry. Way back when I used to rally Volvos I ran Cibie driving and fog lamps. Even ran aircraft landing lights on my 'ol Z/28. Now there's a much larger selection, and so many brands.

PIAA appears to be the choice among many racer/rally cars, and HELLA is an old reliable name that's still putting out lamps. Then there's the option of full size lamps vs. the "mini-lamps." What's a Cowboy to do?

Mounting, that's another issue. If my checkbook would allow I'd get a Mariah mode four front airdam and put lamps in the holes on either side of the radiator opening. For a stock front end, I'm not sure. Fabricating mounts to push the lamps out from inside the grille is an option, but then I'm more attratted to hanging 'em down off the front bumper for wider spacing and a bit more height.

C'mon, you wrenchboys....Help us out....Got any pix?

Denny, from the 'ol corncrib...

My avatar pic is an OEM air dam with OEM 50w squre driving lamps. Although after all these years, one of the light's silver backing is turning yellow, and it looks like I have one fog lamp and one driving lamp. I believe they were made by Hella, but I'm not sure, so if you know for sure, please let me know so I can replace the housing on the messes up one.

Bigger and unedited versions can be seen here:

and here

I swapped in some 80w bulbs, but I blow fuses and heat up the wires and switches with them in. They are not a big enough improvement for me to worry about rewiring the whole light circuit, so I'm going to change them back.

The standard 50w non blue or ultra white bulbs work best for me. Of course that's as supplemental lighting to my standard wattage ultra white headlights.

Good luck,

You've got that right Denny,to fit the front square's are the one's
so it looks ok,you know the only lights that "work" are the aircraft
so far what i've found don't project hard, the patterns are wide
and soft.now if I use ???? 100 watts ,those put out ! but get to
hot and would probly melt the fiberglass and wires, what i want
are some real lamps not just dress-up wanna-be's. maybe you
know like i do about how those aircraft's just "beam" long,wide-
focused, and just bright,,huh,If I could find some square 80 watt
aircraft lamps,,that would be bliss,,maybe somewhere in aviation
parts sites,.,.,.,.
