Now I Really sound like a Newbie
Okay, you'll have to forgive me for the newbie question but what does the rat's nest do for the car?
It sounds like vacuum control for the cruise control. But what is an A/C step up? What other purpose does it serve/what systems are impacted by its removal.
Thanks!
Mike
(P.S.) very close to a deal on an 85 GSL

Cool
Why not pull out all that AC crap! How does it run? I'm thinking of pulling my nest out. I don't have cats, so it's pretty much usless anyway. Did you run a vacume line from the carb vent and the filler neck to the air filter housing or charcoal canister?

rotary love,
the rast nest is all that emissions crap on top of the engine.... vacum hoses blah blah colored thingys on the top of the engine ....
as for what it does.... hmm not a whole lot ,if any, performance wise
but it sure looks a hell of alot nicer.... if your emissions sytem was failing and ya had some vacum leaks or sumthing ( like i think i did) ya prolly feel a nicer ( not nessesarily(sp) fatser) top end
oh and the ac step up is the thing that ups your rpm when the ac is turned on (i think)
the pic to DL is of what it looks like at the start... then i will post a pic of what mine looks like now

I'm guessing that it has something to do with your vaccuum advance and timing. You might try "locking your timing". I haven't tried it personally, but I plan on doing it to my 79. (eventually)
Block the end of the vac. line on the engine and leave the distributor vac. advance lines open. The set your timing with the engine at 4k RPM.
Described fully here:

While you're at it, why not move to DLIDFIS?

(BTW, did I mention this is just a guess?)

yeah, this stuff gets complicated sometimes. I've been doing some reading lately on the subject. When most everyone talks about distributors or ignition stuff they already assume you know the terminology and abbreviations, but somehow don't know how it works. So, they rant on in abbreviations and terminology and i got no clue....
Oh, well, I'll get it one of these days...
