Here's a tricky one....

I just bought a brand new 12A, installed 2 weeks ago, but I cannot get the timing correct because I have a vacuum leak thats throwing off my idle. It's street ported, so.... do I need to do anything special to the carb? Im planning to rebuild it this week, but is there anything I NEED to know? Oh... and the rats nest is coming off as well. .... It runs excellent above 2500 rpm's , very smooth but at idle (1500!) it sounds like hell.

Any ideas? comments (good ones) or suggestions let me know please.

First thing to do is definately find that vaccuum leak. Then you can progress from there.

If you're already removing the rat's nest, that will almost definately cure your vaccuum problems, then you can go from there.

There's nothing special you have to do with a streetport.

if you have a new streetport motor at least do it right and get a real carb/intake or send that nikki to sterling or carl. i dont think a stock nikki pushes enough fuel.

Yes, you need to change the jets for the carb. The motor wants to take in more air and fuel now.

Yep. You would gain some more ponies if you get it tuned for the SP.
