Help! Won't start!

I've read through most of the faq stuff & have a question. On a '85 GSL-SE, would the overheat exhaust sensor cause the ecu to not power the fuel injectors? Also where is this sensor? Can it be repaired/replaced/disabled? I've replaced the fuel pump & filter, but it still acts like it is not getting fuel. I've sprayed starter fluid in it & will bust over, but not run. Please help- I'm not sure where else to look. Short of riping into the injectors & I don't want to do that unless I have to. My old '79 was not near this much trouble, but I just have this feeling I' m so close. Please bretheren help a frustrated owner out. Thanks again.

The exhaust overheat sensor should have nothing to do with starting the engine. I don't have much more to offer than that, but maybe this bump will help you get some attention from the experts. Good luck.

first you gotta pull the plugs out and see if its wet or dry.
if wet, engine might have LOW compression or leaking injectors.
if dry, injectors are NOT opening or NOT flowing correctly.
as far as exhaust overheating, engine running too lean, rich misfire or high back pressure.

If you don't have a copy of the FSM for trouble shooting, the link is in my sig line. Download the 85 edition and follow the flow chart. Be prepared to spend a good deal of time going through it step by step. 1st thing I would be inclined to check is if you even have fuel. You can jumper the fuel relay to do this in case it's not allowing the fuel pump to come on when the ignition is in the start position.
