HELP!!! TII tranny and custom driveshaft, I have vibration starting at 30+mph

Got my new pinion flange and my Custom Driveshaft-specialist driveshaft fits perfectly.

Weather or not the driveshaft is the direct cause of this vibration is yet to be determined, but I am VERY happy with the build and parts quality, and am also very satisfied with the cost and customer service. I $260 shipped for a complete TII/83 driveshaft. http://www.driveshaftspecialist.com

anyways, got the driveshaft on, and went to tow the car down to the exhaust shop.

Hitting 30 mph brought on a slight heavy vibration, and going faster gave a smoother faster vibration.

As far as I know, the tranny and rear end are good. I have towed the car with no driveshaft with no problem up to 55mph. The tranny has been spun to 2500 rpm with the motor with no problem.

What Im thinking is that the tranny is not lined up the the rear end properly, I am running a 3/4 in spacer on the tranny mount, but I used 1/8in shims so the height is easily adjustable.

I know there are a couple turbo guys that can help me out. Im heading home next weekend. and I am hoping to be able to drive the car for the first time in over 2 years.

Many pics and video clips to come sooooooon!!!

I had the same exact problem. Mine turned out to be the driveshaft was out of balance. I bought from the same shop and agree the quality of the build and parts are very good. In my case I drove the car to San Antonio and had them look at it. They took it off the car, rebalanced it and installed it. No more vibration problem, it had too much balance weight. Overall they were very good about the problem and didn't charge me a thing. If that is indeed your problem, I bet they will cover shipping to return and rebalance the driveshaft. Just call them and explain your problem and work something out.

But, before you say it's the driveshaft, make damn sure your install is 100% correct. Check the transmission alignment and make sure it is mounted securely.

Here is some info about proper alignment: http://www.vibratesoftware.com/html_...Specifications

Here's another to help with field balancing: http://www.lx.net/jlynch/fieldbalance_r1.html

I used the two steel worm clamps to successfully do a field balance and most of all the vibration. This will help you pinpoint the problem being the driveshaft.

I can't spend much more time this morning but I'll get back on later to help you out.

Scott

p.s. I've gotten real good at feeling the vibration from driveshafts and honestly feel there is a small amount of vibration in the stock setup. Not much but it is there--so small it is mostly a sound.

I seriously think that it is the tranny out of alignment.

I remember various TII tranny post, and the size of the spacer has always been different.

I think Setzep used a 3/4 and he wrote the TII tranny writeup.

Im going to build a tool for measuring the relative angle of the U-joints, to see if they are out of alignment.

Just looking at it, it didnt seam like they were in line. And the vibration doesnt really feel like its a balance problem, it feels different.

thanks for the links Rex4life, got some good info. I will probably try and get the driveshaft reballanced locally if I can, I really dont have time to ship it back to texas.
