Help. Swapped engine no start. Knowledgeable and searched
The car is an 83 gs, 12a, with a newly swapped used engine. The engine was purchased as a spare 12a with aprox 100k. Has great compression and was sold as a "guranteed" used motor from a reputable source......
Other specifics;
RB holley intake with random Holley 390. (worked well on the engine that was just replaced.)
All emissions removed, and engine wiring harness removed of all unused wires.
Full RB exhaust
I have fuel and spark, so checking the timing was second on the agenda. Everything checks out when lining the back of the flywheel with the yellow timing mark. Using a timing light, timing is set at 0degrees.
The engine has flooded a few times while cranking and after pulling plugs, and swapping with clean ones, there is absolutely no life in her. She cranks well, but dosen't even give a cough or a hic-up......
I need her back on the road today, and im stumped..... Please help.....

You could try to build up some more compression by adding oil through the spark plug holes. In the winter, I added some MMO in the spark plug holes and it started up a lot easier that way.

Well, I have put some 2-stroke oil in the plug holes, and cranked it... She seems to have at least a little life in her. A little cough and sputter here and there.
I did decided to swap the holley out for a freshly rebuilt Nikki and manifold. There seems to be very little or no change.
Im absolutely stumped.... I'm almost ready to try a little starting fluid on her.... I just dont want to damage the engine....

I removed all the Rats nest wiring. let me see; alternator wiring, oil pressure, temp sender, and oil level I believe.
What could I have messed up by doing that??

Second update;
I bought a can of starting fluid, and still nothing. I did notice excess fuel dripping out of the rear primary nozzel, but only when the fuel pump is on.
Its a stock fuel pump, so shouldn't be over pressurizing the float bowls, right?

New rotor, cap, wires, and plugs?
Soulnds like you said, either a fuel (rich) issue- but I personally think its a spark/timing problem. Make sure the plug wires are going to the appropriate places. Sounds stupid, but I've seen it before. The coils may be firing in timing, but if the plugs are mis-matched it does you no good. Also, how old is the gas in the tank?
Just wanted to add - make sure all the vac hoses are capped tight with no leaks! New intake manifold gaskets? A leak there would definately prevent the car from starting.
