help rx-7 trouble

ok so here is the story. i was going to go to school one day and went to turn on my car and it would not turn over so while i was looking at it i noticed that my rpm's weren't being measured so i didn't go to school that day and pushed my car to my garage there i took off the spark plugs and also noticed that they were wet i thought it was flooded. i don't know how to clear that up. but still the rpm's were not getting measured so then i took it to a mazda dealer and they told me it had low compression and that i needed a new engine. didn't i am wondering why it was working great one day then the next day it just broke. i am looking also just in case i do need a new engine for a 12a my rx-7 is an 1985
just wanna give it a few more try's before i give up and buy a new engine. Any one have some idea's they can give me. thanks

Oh yeah heres another quick thing to check, Pull out one sparkplug and turn the engine over by hand, you should here 3 distinct pulses equally spaced out. If you hear these pulses your car should still have compression.

Also can you describe in more detail what happened when you turned the key, did the engine turn over and not start? did it not turn over at all? Did it make any noises... etc etc. more details the better.

I'm not exactly sure if a car without trailing ignition will start, and if your RPMs arent registering your trailing ignition might be dead., I couldnt guess why your plugs were wet, maybe you tried to start it for too long with no luck and flooded it... You try to pop start it? I wish you the best of luck, hey if you got a "new" engine you'll be running around with a nice new engine, and an empty wallet!

I had simmalar symptoms a couple months back. It turned out to be the ignition module which is located on the side of the distributer. When mine went it killed the tach, and the fuel pump about 20 minutes later. The factory module costs about $425CDN, but there is a GM part which is interchangable for $35CDN, im sure your mechanic will know which part number.
give it a shot its cheaper than an engine!

Hell ya!! Mine did the same damn thing. My engine started running real rough, and then the tach started jumping up and down, and then finnaly died and then my fuel pump went out. Come to find out my trailing ignitor went out. Thank God that I had an extra ignitor after installing the direct fire ignition, or I would have been screwed!
