HELP NEW starter squelches!!!

New to me 80/ 5spd -

had to push start it for couple days checked: battery/cables/fussablelink/
put in new starter and now it starts but makes a nasty squelching sound every time

the fly wheel looked ok to me (not chewed up or anything)

Please tell me its not the fly wheel but a bad starter?!

Bought a nasty Autozone special rebuilt starter and it did that, well did it for 4 months thats bout how long it lasted after 2 of them cheapo suckers. Took it back got my money back and then I finally just sucked it up and bought a brand new one through Mazda... That was my 80. On my 85 when the starter went bad, I just had a guy here in town that rebuilds them, rebuild it Works perfect, actually its in my 88 vert now and still works

mine did it the first time I put on the new factory starter. I think it just had to sink up with the teeth the first time, it has not done it since. If you battery is week it may not be sending enough juice to your starter.
