help, New engine, timing off.

I need some help really bad. So i got a new engine as my old one had seized. It has a exhast post new housings and upgraded apex seals. Anyway. I got it in, everthing put on it (carb, water pump, ect) and i cant get it to start. It had a bad coil and Ignitor and i fixed that both, so i get fuel, spark, and compression. But it wont run. Can someone go over step by step of how to install the dizzy in a new engine, and time it? Because thats i can think it would be. oh, also, i was told to set it 2 deg advanced because of the port. I really hate my car being off the road this long, espicaly if its soo close!

Ps. its an 83 12a.

+1. Come on this is basic stuff. All of yoy guys that need basic 101 diagnosis make a New Years Resolution. I will use the search function, now say that over and over 10 times.

Why do we go thru all the trouble of having things archived when no-one will use it ?

I bet they would become alot more energetic if we starting charging for each repetitive post, lol

There is a archive where the show you how to set the timing using the fly wheel. Try setting it that way. My engine builder put my pulley on my hub wrong.

Ok if you double checked and the timing is right then your problem is not timing. Check Fuel and spark dont wait for us to give you ideas check all the normal stuff. Check fuses to.

If the distributor was pulled off and not aligned correctly when reinstalled than yes it may be the timing.

If you havent already, change the spark plugs. I had a very similar problem with one of my new engines. I would have swore the problem was timing or fuel and all I had to do was change the plugs.

Yea, its tuff to guess whats really going on without trouble shooting it myself. However there is a simple system that I use to set my timing that never fails.

First tell us what you did to verify the pulley is on correct. Don't quote the thread, just what you did.
