Help with my list of problems
Here are my problems, any Idea on how to fix or daignose them would be sweet!
1. When I hit the breaks several times the engine dies.
2. The car will not Idle with the choke closed until really warm (this could be normal?)
3. Lots of backfiring on deceleration (could my lack of exhaust cause this?)
4. Terrible milage. (maybe cause its an 81 carberated? but I think I can beat 15mpg)
5. The steering wheel has to be turned 90 degrees to the left to go straigh, and when you do turn the wheel, it does nothing then it yanks to whatever direction you are steering, (ball joints? allighn? tie rods looked good, but yea)
6. Poor voltage rates, battery dont stay charged all the way, car runs at 12-13 volts when being driven. Turning lights on, and using accesories lowers this significantly. (crappy old 50 amp alternater to blame?)
Any help with these would be great!
feel free to email me with any help Nemo1080@Hotmail.com
thanks again!

you seem relatively new to the forum so welcome...and let me help you out...what you are asking are some common problems that have already been beat to death...look at the pic...if you still can't find anything then post a thread...not trying to be a jackass but if everyone started doing this it would bog down the forum with useless threads that have already been discussed thousands of times...

I agree with Lee, these are basic questions well covered on threads found by search. I suggest you take time to sort these problems out before you turbo your car and go efi as you mention in other threads.

Having reread the list of problems, the first one is unusual. Sounds like an extreme form of compression braking! It could be due to numerous different things, but possibly something simple like a poor electrical connection which fails under the jolt of braking hard.
So in return: 2. normal, 3. timing/rich fuel, 4. normal but helped by 3, 5. worn steering, 6. yes/fan belt loose.
