help my first gen compadres

i JUST PUT MY CARB BACK ON , in the process i did the rats nest removal . I do believev i folllowed the instructions to a T. It now idles at about 4000 rpm and has a random stutterevery so often. For some unknown reason(carb rebuilder), the choke cable moves the linkage but does not seem to actuate the butterfly? the idle would go down when i went to the passenger side on the back of the carb and pressed down upon a piece that is attached to the main butterfly linkage. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated .It was a veteran carb rebuilder but im hoping not knowing anything a bout 7's he did not make some rookie mistakes.....HELP pls

p.s. she is part payment

First off, it sounds like the choke linkage wasnt put back on correctly by your rebuilder. And I agree william. Sounds like a vacuum leak and mis adjusted idle speed screw, or possibly incorrectly installed linkage. Are you saying it dies below 4000? Or it simply wont go below 4000?

had to work to day but gave it a look after work and it appeared that i hooked up the cruise control linkage wire a lil too tight and it wasnt allowing the primary butterflies to close completely tight ( im talkin in the thou here). so i loosened it and voila it had a better idle than it had before. The choke flap at the top doesnt seem to be doing dick now , but when the choke cable was released the idle dropped over a 1000 rpm so its at about 1500 ? I am going to mess with the idle screw and the airfuel when i get home from work tommorrow. Any idea about the choke butterfly though ? . any pics of proper linkage placement? thanx guys.. oh yeah and when i push on the choke flap , when its running for a few min , it causes it the engine to stumble( i took it as a good sign, like maybe i had eliminated all the vaccuum leaks ?)
