Fuel pump gone bad... pull the fuel lines and have a buddy flick the key for a second and see if you get fuel.

I recommend you start doing some serious reading there.

Does the tach move when you are cranking the engine over?

I haven't noticed if the tach moves when cranking. I will check that today. I'm gonna also check the famous fuel pump relay. once again thanks for the link and everybodys knowledge. I was going insane yesterday working on my car.

I was suggesting a possible cause and a possible way to determine if that was the case.

The shutoff relay is located above the throttle pedal.

But if your tach is moving while cranking, then it should be okay. Pull off the fuel line at the carb and put it into a jar, then crank the car over for a few seconds. Any gas come out?

Yeah if the tach was jumping then it would either be wiring to the fuel pump is faulty or fuel pump itself is faulty.
