Fuel pump isn't drawing fuel then, it is running but not creating any pressure, sounds like a replacement is needed, I bought a brand new carter to replace the stocker and it failed after 10 minutes, the replacement Carter is still runnning 25,000 miles later.

Since he got it to fire with the input side in the fuel can, the pump may not be bad, the hose may have sucked itself to the bottom of the fuel can and starved the engine.

Since it's not pulling from the tank, go back and check the hose routing. You may have the supply and return hoses crossed or the check valve plumbed backwards. If that doesn't solve it, rod out the metal supply tube coming out of the tank.

If all else fails, maybe the new pump is bad.

Sorry I meant I unplugged the ling going to the tank and stuck it in the gas can. So I had the pump pumping fuel from the gas can not the tank. It fired up and then did all the funny stuff I mentioned in me previous post....

If it was pumping fuel why would the rpms raise for a few seconds then just die out???

As i posted, the draw hose may have sucked down on the bottom of the gas can and starved the engine, if the hose was long enough to do that, or the pump may be bad as aussiesmg stated.

Isn't that just the fuel cut, in case of a roll over? If so, I think you'll be fine as long as you make an effort to keep it wheel side down.

I'm not entirely sure that's what it is, but I think so.

I'm guessing thats what was wrong with the car. I bypassed it and it runs fine now.

There is an arrow on the vavle, hook it up wrong, it blocks the fuel.

Take the unit off and shake it, you should hear the check ball rattle. If it doesn't, run some carb cleaner through it and see it that will free it up. If you decide to replace it, they aren't that hard to find.

The same technique works on every other part too, or the car as a whole for that matter.
