Help me pick Gauges.

I have been going to buy a set of gauges for about a year now and finally has some money I can spend.

So I need help picking between the Auto meter Phantom Series

or the Auto Meter Ultra Light series

These are going into a 79 with black interior.

Thanks

Neither. I prefer black face to match the original.

I have the Ultra-lites, with the red rubbers on the bulbs. In all of my years I never thought I would be putting rubbers on a light bulb. Not exactly the most erotic thing I've done before.

The only thing I don't like about the U-lites is they don't light up as bright as I would like, but I never tried them with a bare bulb. i have my gauges on a seperate dimmer switch, the pics here show them as gright as they can go, the stock illumination is turned down to half or less.

I have the phantoms in my FB

Speedo
Tach
Oil Temp
Oil Press.
Water Temp.
Volt
Fuel

Overall I like them. Easy to read in the day, and not bad at night (don't do much night driving in the FB though).

I'd go with the pro-comp ultralites...the silver will accent the black interior quite nicely

I'd go with auto-meter Z series guages, just because they almost exactly match the numbers and style of the stock guages.

I like everything to match

Z series rock!!! i put the oil pressure guage in place of the clock....and if you take the clock out the light bulb has a gel cover on it and if you put that on you auto meter light bulb it matchs the stock light colors perfectly.....!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Z series could also work for me.

I do like the cobat ones, But the Oil temp only comes in a 140 - 300 range. I like the 100 - 250 range cause 180 is straight up.

I'd go with the Z series, and i most likely am for my cluster. They are the closest thing to stock, and nothing but black faces look good IMO. I tried the white face thing, but it just didn't fit the styling of the interior and seemed too bright against the black interior of my car.

I dont have problems picking gauges but I have problems find the Pods for the gauges for the pillar for the windshield. The one pictured in the first red gauges pictures. Where can I get those from?

Of the choices you're looking at I like the Z series the best, but personally I like cobalts better, thats what I have in my 83, air fuel, oil pressure, oil temp and water temp. But like you said the oil temp gauge is kind of annoying how it starts at 140, during normal driving it barely moves, otherwise I'm very happy with them.

I still dont agree that using a 0-15 fuel pressure gauge can make a big difference. Its only there for reference. Everthing else falls into tuning. But again, thats just me. I use my big ears for changes in idle when setting fuel pressure.

Those are nice but the oil temp one is the wrong scale.

Sometimes takes me a long time to spend money. Expecelly on stuff I really dont have to have.

I have been brooding on this decision for two years now.
