Darn good question, I’ve seen it, I’ve look at, but I have no ideal what it is! Probably some sort of emissions thingy deal.

I think it has to do with the acv???

my air pump is already gone but i left my acv there cuz i dnt have a block off plate(i had plugged the hose with a piece of cork).

I just got my acv cover plate from mazdatrix.
And i was gonna take off the ACV (at least i think that was it) and the part that me and POSracer are trying to indentify is connected to it.Can i remove that mystere hose type thigny too

When your air valve isn't directing air into the Cat. or where ever it sends the air from air pump, it must get rid of the air some where. The black cylindical thingy is a muffler. Without the muffler, would hear an annoying sound coming from the air that is being redirected out of the air valve. If you have removed the valve and or air pump, you should just unbolt it and discard since it ain't doing anything down there. I removed mine last night. Since it is under the air box, you won't notice much increase in engine compartment space unfortunately. And it doesn't weight very much.

WOW.
i removed the ACV now and the hose mufler thingny and my engine bay looks super clean now, and i can see the 6 port actuators better now too.

I had to put in new bolts tho cause the acv was much thicker than the acv block off plate.
