HELP! just swapped my spare carb on !HELP!

hey guys, i just hooked my spare carb up and im having a problem..
when i turn my fuel pump on (manual switch) it pours gas out of the line that is directly next to the only solenoid on the linkage side of the carb.. where should this be connected? i have no clue where it goes and its gushing gas out every time i turn the fuel pump on...

Theres 2 lines, one supply from the pump and a smaller return line.

ahhhhhhhhhh, the nipple is towards the front? L shaped? its a vent port, fuel should not come out of there. Your floats are stuck and/or your needle valves are stuck. Tap the carb with a mallet on the 2 inlet banjo bolts. (hex bolts where the fuel lines make an s turn into the top of the carb) Dont wail on them! Just tap on them. They tend to stick if the carbs been sitting for a while.

pull the hoses off, and spray that **** with carb cleaner inside and out. let it sit for an hour or so, then do it again. Hit it again. if it still doesn't work, then you need to rebuild it.

BTW- Carl knows his stuff!! He has never steered me wrong- He deserves Mucho Respecto.

Newbie Question:

I was around when my carb was dissasembled.. the floats are easy to see (biggass black floaty things), but what do the needles look like?

Well slingo, you may have to pull the top off the carb and clean the needles and seats, theyre prolly gunked up. Viper, the needles and seats are the brass parts by the float hinge. Fuel goes in, float..............floats on fuel, as it rises it raises the needle into the seat, closing the inlet.

Nice of you to say MR, glad to help. I learned from some really smart people.

carl your the man i got them unstuck, it quit pouring, i tightened the banjo bolts up and let her rip.....had to go buy a new battery, the old one was toast i got it to run decent, still wont idle when choke goes off though..i think its the spark plugs..damn autolites... ill replace those and then tune the carb..it ran SO MUCH BETTER though...

i sprung an oil leak though i noticed it during one of the times that it ran for about a minute..... good sized pool on rear drivers side, i think either the pan is leaking or the oil cooler...

Glad to help. Im not convinced one way or the other on autolites.........time for some testing.

water oil cooler? prolly the o-rings. they suck ***, dry up and start leaking. No pressure in the pan to cause a "good sized pool" only when running. Check those hoses under the cooler when you get it all cleaned up, which I HIGHLY suggest you do. The oil softens and weakens the hoses, causing premature failure, overheating, and death of an otherwise good engine. Ive lost 2 engines that way. Usually you can take them (the hoses) off and match them up at the auto parts store rather than paying Mazdatrix enormous sums of cash to buy from them. Sometimes you have to splice a couple of em ( I use barbed nipple fittings and hose clamps), or shorten one end..... whatever you have to do to make a duplicate of the original, but use premolded hose, the radius of the bends is too sharp for plain old heater hose.
