Ask them if thier diagnosis is wrong, will they put the old parts back on, and not charge you for the labor. See what kind of response you get then. I learned along time ago, that you do not diagnose by replacing parts. Testing them first is part of diagnosing the problem.

Well, Chris sent me a pm and the mechanic gave up! I guess they got it running a bit better, but said to take it to someone who knows RX-7s. I'm going to work with Chris and see if we can get this figured out. Maybe by phone/email, but it is much easier to help diagnose things in person. We will probably talk tonight and run through some ideas to check out.

So how much did it end up costing in total I wonder?

What I don't understand is why are rotaries so hard to work on for mechanics. I mean the basics are the same. Air, spark, fuel.

Common problems in all old vehicles: Vaccuum leaks, ignition, fuel, to an extent compression.

Why is it so seemingly hard for a mechanic to diagnose?

well, I really want someone who knows what they are doing....I am thinking of having it towed to Kent ( thanks kent) and see what he can do .. I would never ask you to do it for free and I really appreciate that offer. I would not feel right about it... but I like your attitude and willingness to help me.. Thanks all for your input..

I looked at all the little rubber vaccume hoses and they all were connected and looked ok.. I checked the BAC valve too and replaced it with another one but it did not work. I just might bite the bullett and pay for a tow to kents place .. I figure I can get it towed to his area for about 125.00-150.00 ..I will have to check into that . Shezz....what a pain in the -ss.

I would like to keep this car.. I have two gsl-se's and I might sell my Black one.. I really like this red one ...Who knows... one thing at a time...

Kent, I will give you a call .

By the way , you can come here if you want but I am afraid I might not have the tools and such to make it easier for you.. It seems that the best way to do this is get it to you.. What do ya think??

Talk to you later.... chris

and ...by the way, the shop was really not that bad..... At least he finally told me he really would feel better that I take it to a "rx7" guy.. I basically told him that if he was sure it was the pump and/or the regulator...go ahead and do it...But he said he really did not know and that was when he said " get out out of here" so to speak... he charged me 80.00 for trying to diagnois.. He spend about 2 hrs playing around with it... no luck of course... DARN!!!!!

Sounds good, Chris. I have tools that I could bring to work there, but I'm affraid that time might be an issue. It might be something very simple and quick to fix, or it might take some digging around to find the issue.

Perhaps I could come down and take a crack at it and if we don't figure it out, then try to get it up here? It would be easier if the car was here, but I don't want you to have to spend a bunch of money towing the car either. We'll figure something out.

You the man kent... Please let me know when you could come down this way. That would be great!!! I have the car at the shop now just sitting there so I guess I will have it towed back home...

What a pain in the butt... never had such a problem with a rx7 before..I guess I have been lucky until now. I have had 8-9 rx7 over the years.

I 'll give you a call this week. I have been working crazy hours and I had some personal issues . When is a good time to call you? Maybe we can trouble shoot over the phone.. Thanks and I really appreciate you and all the rx7 people out there.......cjf

Pretty much any evening after about 6pm or about anytime during the weekend is good. I'll be busy this weekend trying to rebuild a retaining wall that got knocked down by a falling tree. But perhaps the following weekend might work. We'll see.

I pulled the ECU unit from the passenger side and swapped it with another one and the car still acted the same way.. I will look at kents write up and try and do a code check on the car.

I started the car today and it idled good!! but...it could not sustain... I tried to drive down the road and as soon as I put it in first gear , it konked out.. I started it again....it idled fine ( at good rpms too!!) but as soon as I threw it in gear to take off, it konked out..

This is annoying.....will keep at it best I can....
