Exclamation Help! Fiche Lost! (and so am I)

Hey Guys,

Alright, so as most of you already know I've stripped the engine bay of my '84GS down to practically nothing and I'm building it back up again.

While doing this, I decided to trim and re-wrap the passenger's side wiring harness (listed in the manual as Engine harness or [ E ] ).

Following it down under the beehive I came accross 4 connectors. Two from the oil pan (oil level sender and I dunno what), one from my oil pressure sender, and another *yellow* one which went straight into what looks like a small temp sender.

This yellow wire ripped right out without much force, taking the insides of the sender out with it. I don't know exactly which sender this is, or what it's called so I can order one. Heck, I don't even know where (other than mazda) I would order one!

It basically looks like a 12mm bolt, but it has a wire sticking out of it. It screws into the block not too far from the oil pressure sender.

Now I know there's a water temp sender on the water pump housing (for the choke) and I was pretty sure there was another one at the bottom of the radiator (which I thought was for the temp gauge). What is this sender, what's it called, what's its part number, and where can I find one?

I went looking for the parts fiche and found iluvmyrx7.com to be gone!

Does anybody have a copy of the parts fiche pdf files that they could send me? I'll find a place to host them so that people can have access to them again!

And don't tell me to RTFM.... I've been through both the Heynes and the FSM pdfs and the closest thing I could find was on Wiring Diagram C. A yellow wire with a white stripe (which mine does not have) saying that it's "No. 1 Temp Sender". No parts number though and the picture is crap.

Okay.....

So with a little digging (for "sensor" at mazdatrix and browsing through many many pages) I found the category I'm looking for.

http://www.mazdatrix.com/o-misc.htm

I don't know which sensor I have but I'm assuming it's the "straight thread, bullet connector" one since it didn't come with a crush washer. Now I remember Mazdatrix part numbers being related in some way to mazda part numbers, so how does "18-510A-8569" translate into an official mazda part number so I can order one tomorrow?

alxpril, how big are they? we'll have to figure out a way to get them over to me. Even if they aren't useful for my car, they will be for someone, so I'll find a way to host 'em anyway.

You have MSN?

That sender is the actual temp sender for the gauge. You may be able to find it at a general parts house, and avoid paying Mazda their gold plated price.

Oh, and the other wire that goes to the oil pan, that's the temp sensor for the cold start assist.

Really? I wish I had known that before I went re-wiring the harness... 'cause that wire would have been removed with the rest of 'em!

Oh well.

And from what I can tell there are THREE water temp sensors!

One on the back of the WP for the choke activation ("No. 1 Water Temp Switch"), one on the bottom of the rad that hooks directly into the emissions control unit ("No. 2 Water Temp Switch") and one that bolts into the rear housing that runs the gauge ("Water Temp Gauge Unit")

Gah.. This car would be so much simpler had they never bothered with the emissions! I just finished removing the ton of wires associated with the rat's nest from that harness.

Ah yes. The Rotary Engine, simplicity at it's most complicated.......
No 2 also runs the hot start assist. Or, as I refer to mine, the thingy that's unhooked......

Rewire your fuel pump and a couple of other things, (?) and you can toss the ecu and that harness.

Someone asked about the sensor at the bottom of the rad the other day, and as near as I can figure, it does go directly to the ecu, and I am guessing it controls the hot start assist.

Hey Jon - I downloaded every pdf I could get my hands on from iluvmyrx7.com because I was afraid it would go away someday...I can't believe it's legal to post it...isn't it copyrighted? Anyway, if you want them let me know. It'll be at least Sunday before I can do anything with them though.
