help (driveshaft)

I'm trying to drop my trans today and I'm at the driveshaft stage. I unbolted all the nuts at the rear diff for the driveshaft, and took out all the bolts. But the driveshaft won't budge? Whats the deal? I even got a rubber mallet and was pounding on the shaft and still nothing. Am I missing something? ('84 GSL-SE)

Also, there was some metal flakes in the trans oil. Could that be from the clutch? Or is it the trans? I hope its not the trans.

If there is metal, it is the tranny. Clutch debris shouldn't go to the tranny.

the flange on the driveshaft often rusts to the pinion flange. no biggie. a hammer works very well for the job as it loosens the rust. the metal flakes you are seein in the trans oil are normal and are from the transmission. as long as there arent any large chunks you are fine. make sure you wipe the drain plug magnet clean of any shavings before reintallation

Its just a silvery dust in the trans oil, and not much at that. I've heard now that its normal. That said, my driveshaft splines don't look too healthy. I'll get pics later.
