Help on deciding to buy a RX7

Well it will be my 1st RX7 but ive been a fan for a long time. Ive fallen upon a 1985 RX7 for sale near me and im wondering if it would make a good daily driver. Its 130,000 with a new engine and tranny. Also the guy will sell me a parts car for another $300 so im very interested.
My concerns are...

carburated im unsure about getting it bc ive never delt with one before.
daily driver- realiablity issues
lack of HP (i drive a 1991 240sx and i liek the acceleration on it but a guy rear ended me and totalled the car)

any other advice would help me.

P.S. i am searching for other answers but these were question that i couldnt find right now.

Have you test drive it?, dose the body have any kind of rust?, dose it look clean?, I mean there is a few things you need to look into considering on buying a Rx7. It also depends how much money and time you are willing to put on it.

I got mine for $600 and all I needed to do is give it a tune-up and fix the master cylinder for my brakes. My car came with 146K miles, and now is 149K and is still driving fine. It was clean and I have a folder of all the work and places that it was service by the 3 previous owners. So I got lucky to get a car with so much papers and how they treated the car. Good deal for me but for you, must get enough info from here and from other experts in this forum that will help and guide you to better buying that Rx7.

Good luck and hope you get it.

he says it has no rust. So i was gonna look into that closly and if it runs fine then i think i will do it. He wants to trade me for my 1985 nissan 300zx turbo. Its my parents are complaing about insurance cost and its kinda rusted and im trying to look into somthing more insurance friendly and still 2 doors and rear wheel drive.

The insurance would probably be about the same for RX-7 as for 300ZX. Mazda may even be slightly more expensive

nah 12A ins. is way cheaper for me than for the 13B, and 300ZX Turbo would be more than the 13B

Since you live in the snow belt, take out the rear bins and check for rust. It may not show up in the wheel wells. What is your Z worth? Get some pics of both and post them. And I would never pay 300 for a parts car unless it was an SE with many good parts. But that's just my tight *** speaking.

The 12a won't have the acceleration of the turbo, but it will out corner and brake it.

On the other hand, I took my 12a to the 1/8th mile this summer and was faster than a Z31 turbo. Don't know if he knew how to drive properly or was just babying it. I had headers, exhaust, rats nest removed and a 44 pph mikuni carb on the car at the time.

Happy cornering.

here is another with my 240sx.

Its the only good angle of the 240sx, because the other quarter panel window is broken and taped up and the rear end is all banged up after being rear ended
