Help - Can't Match My Paint Color

I need to get some touch up paint for my 1979 RX-7.
The factory paint color was "spark yellow" or YU.

But the original owner (1st owner) had the car repainted a different yellow color before he sold it to me. This was not recorded anywhere on the car identification plates or anywhere.

I was thinking about ordering a color swatch to get the match right.

Is there any other way?
Will Maaco help me to match, or other paint specialist?

i have the same problem. original spark yellow YU is a single stage, my car got repainted with multistage, and trochoid is trying to get it matched by his paint guy. maybe try sanding and see if it in fact is a single stage.

a specialty paint shop has a machine that can determins the exact match based on a paint sample from your car. i would suggest going back to the original color though. it would be eaiser. or if you arent keen on the stock color get a ppg book and look through their samples and repaint to their specs.

Check with your local paint jobber: they should have the gun (mentioned above) that can read your color & produce a formula that is at least very close (if not exact), which can be tinted to match if they know their shtuff.
35+ years doing this (paint & body).

One thing I forgot: Sikkens (& I assume most other manufacturers by now) have what they call a "Colormap" book. It's paint chips in various degrees of tint/color with holes in the center of the chips. Makes it real easy to place them on your paint & find something *very* close.
