Question Help

I've been trying to do some searches to find out what motors I can fit into my 85' as a way to not feel so dumb. Unfortunately I have not had much luck. I keep reading about 12A and 13B, but I don't really know much about them. I am pretty certain it's gonna be easier for me to get a new engine for my car than try to repair the existing one, but I don't know what options I have. If someone could help me out with some answers or direct me to where to look I would greatly appreciate it.
thanks

Well, if you don't know a lot about these motors, maybe we should start by making sure that you really need a new one. Can you describe what's wrong with your motor right now?

well, first I should tell you, it's been about 9 years or so since the car has been touched. The problem then was it was overheating to the point where it was dying. It would just shut down. I tried several different things the radiator, thermostat, even put a new water pump on it. It still didn't help. It got to the point where it wouldn't even start. At the advice of a local Rotary Perfomance shop I tried dumping some oil down the carb to try building up compression. It smoked like hell, but it started. It ran down the street and back, then the same problem. Overheated and died. I talked the shop again and they said that I would need a new block. That it had the equivalent of a warped head on a conventional engine. They quoted me 2500 for a new block and at that time I just gave up. I only paid like 1500 for the car to begin with. But now I really want to revive the car.
