sure, done many times. just do a search and see. In my case I stuck a 13b tii motor with tii gearbox into my first gen. This is what you have to watch out for :
1) the 13b motor is physically longer than the 12A, so you need to get the front mount bracket from mazdatrix.
2) also order the 12A->13B sump from mazdatrix....this will make sure you clear the steering link (see pic)
3) modify the tranny tailpiece...basically this moves the gearstick forward about an inch
4) use your std tranny cross member but you have to fabricate your own tranny mount (see pic for an example of what I did)
5) gearbox will be slightly longer means you need to have a driveshaft fabricated to fit. do this last once motor and tranny is in
end result is a neat fit with gear stick perfect in hole

To put a 2nd gen N/A trans in, all you would have to do is swap the tailshaft housing from the 1st gen trans. Other than slight gearing differences between 1 & 4, Far higher 5th, and the tailshaft housing, the 2nd gen N/A trans is the same size as the 1st gen.
The 2nd gen trans have a much higher 5th gear. It is really too high for the stock 3.90 rear gear ratio of a first gen. You would be running such a low RPM in 5th, that you wouldn't have much acceleration capacity without major HP output. Of course, you could always lower the rear gear ratio to accomodate the taller 5th gear.....

@nd gen rear is indepedent(sp) and will require a good deal of fabricatioo, down time and knowing what you are doing. Unless you ar just talking about swapping out the gears. Dosnt Kia gears or something like that fit.

Just in case you don't understand, the answer is no.
