Help!!!!!!!!!!!

i hooked up the battery on my 85 gsl today and the main fusable link started to smoke . before i bought the car the owner said he hooked up the battery cables backwards (but only for a second because they sparked and he said the fuseable link smoked then also) i hooked the battery cables up properly. i just put the motor back in the car i am pretty sure i hooked everything up right.
there is a wire that goes from the fusable link. i have it hooked to the positive battery cable. is that right? please help..thanks, vic

You've got a short circuit somewhere.

First, drop all the fuses out of the passenger compartment fuse box (Under the dash, near the clutch pedal.) Also, open the shroud around the steering column (Should take four screws.)

Look for obvious cuts in the plastic coating on any wires that goto the ignition switch. Follow all the wires under the dash and in the steering column area to where the go through to the engine bay.
Also check the wiring in the engine bay. (That's kinda messy. The harnesses are usually wrapped up in tape.)

Wires that are pinched or under a screw when they're not supposed to be, or disconnected and dangling should be corrected. Repair any cuts in teh plastic insulation with electrical tape.

Lemmie know if that helps. I have more stuff.

now where can i get a new fusible link? i was hoping i would not have to check all the wires because i just wrapped all wires in new electrical tape, just put it over the old tape, and put all wires in loom. i could have crimpped a wire putting the motor back in..vic
