OKay guys, I'm shooting in the dark, but desperate for answers. Just bought a slightly used rebuild off ebay. Yeah, I know. But it was rebuilt by Kearney racing for SCCA IT racing. Living in small town USA and not mechanically inclined, I had a trusted mechanic install the motor which came with an IT carb, hot distributor, and high output alternator. My mechanic wasn't able to use these as they wouldn'y conect to the factory hoses, ac, and computer. Okay, now to the point. After installing it with my stock components, he told me that it starts and runs, but soon begins to exhaust through the carb (intake). ANY IDEAS??

I split this as it deserves its own thread. Im not familiar with Kearney's work but most likely they simplified the carb for racing purposes. If you need to keep everything as stock, Id suggest you try to trade what you have for stock components. PM me and we'll see what we can work out if need be.

Onto your problem. He says its backfiring thru the carb? Thats sounds like your ignition timing is just wayyyyyy off. Maybe post this in the midwest section as well? There may be members near you who might be able to help you out. Or at least take a quick look at it and give you some advice.

You said in your post you got the engine from a racer. I would bet it has been ported the increase performance, If the exshuast port has been openen up to much, as the apex seal crosses the exshuast port the the presure on the exshaust side can get to the intake side, causing it to pop out thru the carb. THE FIX is to increase the idle speed to 1000 to 1250 rpm's at idle, or rebuild with new rotor housings
