Smile Hello, starting a restore and new to the forum

As you can tell from my join date I've been trolling around here for a while reading post after post and searching the archives. After six years of not being able to get her to start I have my 85 GS starting every time again. I'm doing all the electrical and aesthetic work myself, along with a little bit of the wrenching and hoses etc. I have a mechanic that I trust completely doing the major wrenching parts, but he's not completely familiar with the rotary. I just want to say that there is a wealth of info on here and that even though I haven't asked any questions directly yet you all have been a great help.

I have swapped ignitors around to get the tach and fuel pump working again. I got WD40 and traced several vacuum leaks. I have new dist cap and rotor, new NGK plugs and wires, new fuel filter, ordering a new K&N air filter, and just tracked the vacuum leak on the anti-afterburn hose. All of this per info I found on here. Thats not all but I don't mean to write a book here.

I do have a question though. On that hose, since it runs so close to the exhaust manifold, would it help to put heat tape on it or would that restrict any expansion it needs to do while running.

Thanks everybody for a great place to learn.

I guess I'll go ahead and do it. My brother told me if anything not letting it expand right could keep it tighter and help avoid the leak in the future.

Help I can't get my rx-7 to start?

I have had it my 1985 gs, 12a for four months and I pulled the distributor out this weekend. Did not mark anything. I need to know how can I get the piston to line up. I had it running before this bone head stunt of my.

I would recommend all ruber vacuum lines to be replaced with silicone . Silicone lines will not crack and weather like the factory rubber lines. They are extremely resistant to heat and oil, and they are a definate upgrade. Summitracing sells a silicone vacuum line kit for around $30.00

Rotate the main pulley to TDC. On the distributor you will see two small round indentations. Rotate it until they line up. Insert the distributor into the front cover. It is easy to get it off by one tooth when inserting it. When you start to time it with a light and find that rotating the distributor doesn't give you enough adjustment one way or another then you are likely off. Pull it out and do it again. The proccess is explained in the FSM.

Thanks for the input, is this the product your refering to? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
If so I'll go ahead and get that ordered if I can't find something local. The Parts places here have been surprising me with how well, and how fast they have getting stuff for me. Yay for local business.
