dude chances are its NOT your heater core! I replaced my heater core and its still leaking. It was a REALLY big job. Had to remove the whole dash and figure out how to wrestle out the heater box. It's more likely a leaking rubber hose either at your heater control vavle or behind the heater. But since your **** is hard to turn (temperature) I bet $50 bucks its your heater control valve. I have to do mine in a few days. I know I dont have to remove the dash though. Small hands and a flashlight to undo the fitting behind the heater box.

You can also go to your local autoparts store, and they sell this radiator leak sealer... you just pour the stuff in the radiator, i used it on my 82 Ford Ranger because it was leaking on the passenger side, it worked, but i could still smell the fluid though, and their were only minor drips, but much better than before.

Goodbye, cooling capacity. This is unwise with the temperature-sensitive rotary.

I had this problem about 2 years ago, and fixed it by bypassing the heater core and plugging the radiator lower hose outlet and the inlet underneath the oil filter pedestal. I live in Arizona; I wouldn't recommend this if you live in a cold climate!

The heater control valve tends to break apart after a number of years (in my case, 18 yrs), and then the valve allows hot coolant to squirt out of the piston seal right onto your gas pedal. Very restrictive when every time you try to push the gas pedal you get hot coolant squirting onto your foot and soaking your shoe!

VB catalog lists the valve, and IIRC, it's only about $45. Good luck, as I would think it's going to take some disassembly work to get to the rubber hose connections that connect the valve to the heater core.

An I don't promote the stuff on any car(though never tried it on my cars, would rather actually fix it w/ weld/solder/something). Never seen it work. And the foamy stuff that it leaves bothers me.
