How much is a lot? Like enough to melt the carpet? Otherwise, I'd chalk it up to the exhaust leak or the natural tendancy of rotaries to run hot. Just thank whatever you worship that its not like the Triumph my grandfather used to have that ran the exhaust under the floorboard, and through the center console as the sole method of heating the cabin.

The exhaust from a rotary engine is extremely hot because there is no "by-stroke" where exhaust is not expelled like in a piston engine. Since hot exhaust is expelled constantly, the heat mounts and mounts, making the exhaust get very very hot, very very quick. Since your exhaust is right under the passenger side, you will feel heat comming through the floor. Mine does that, as well as heat from around the shift boot. If its not excessively hot, burns ur hand to touch, then i would say its normal.
