Headroom in 1980 RX7

Hello all, I'm looking at purchasing an Anniversary Edition 1980 RX7 with a sunroof... now the seller is a few hundred miles away so I can't see the car in person right now... my question is, I'm 6'6" tall and I've found that sports cars with sunroofs (ie Celica's etc) usually are to short for me to fit into >.< Does anyone know what the clearance is on a RX7? Or from personal experience give me some kind of an idea if I'll fit??

I think it'll be a close fit. If you have the seat all the way back it might work but I'm not sure. I say go check the car out and see how it is

It will be very close im about 6'3''-6'4'' and I usaully sit with the seat pretty far back. If the car has a glass sunroof you will get an extra inch or two of head room if its the stock metal one dont plan on sitting with your seat in an upright position.

I wonder myself how I sqeeze into the car all the time. I say go check it out. The car is some what small but it is a ton of fun. But if you lean the seat back i think you will be fine. Ill take some messurements for you tomorrow.

Hey awesome, thanks for doing that! I'd love to go check it out, but I'd need someone to give me a ride to the seller, and that could be hard, most of my friends aren't willing to drive 600 miles so I can sit in a car ^_^

I'm 6'5 and I sit quite comfortably in mine (no sunroof though), I've heard that the 1st gen sunroofs don't take up as much headroom as newer cars because they just pop out or something-is this true?

If you get a glass roof it will give you a little more room than the metal one.
Also, you can take the covers off the seats and shave some of the foam off to give you more room. Obviously, you will sacrifice a little ride comfort. That is what the Miata guys do.
I own two first gens, two second gens, and a third gen. And out of all of them the 80 has the most headroom. I think the seats are already have a little less foam than the rest.

Horatio-
you looking at the RX on ebay?? in southern Alberta? It has a glass roof, so you should be golden for head room. Nice car!! looks like new! Good luck - I'll be watching to see what you pay for it
I'd do the "buy-it-now" if it drives like it looks. I had to go 3000 miles to see my RX7 for the first time - after I'd already paid for it (ebay, too)! Fear&Loathing but it was fine. helps to have someone nearby to check it out first

Im 6"4 and the headroom is quite good. You may have to put a smaller steering wheel on like i did as the stock one was imbeded into my lap. I drive with the seat all the way back, and tilted a little and i have about 3 inches between the top of my head and the sunroof.
