Headlight Rod Bushings

As I'm slowly going through my car, wondering why things aren't working like I like, I came to a problem;

2 of my headlight motor rod bushings are broken!

Are these replaceable? I know BDA and Mazdatrix sell rod with bushings for $30 and $40. Are the bushings a pressed fit upon molding the rods?

If anyone has any spares they are looking to sell, please let me know.

Thanks!
Chris

The bushings on the large rods are cast-in-place; on the small rods (& the wiper arms), they are riveted on. Mazda always sold them as an assembly.

I've been messing with making replacement bushings cast from urethane. so far they've worked OK. Lil more R&D required before I'm willing to offer them to others - don't want anyone mad at me!

I just did the grommet trick on my car. I will find the size I used in a second. It was super easy
and fit perfectly. Ad a little lube like lithium or axle grease and it slides right in while not popping
out.

This may have nothing to do with how it is made or anything, but back in my dental
making days, we would pour stone into the impression (of the patients mouth) and
have the impression on a vibrator. Helps to get those air pockets out from the
corners.

Not sure if it helps you or not, food for thought

Vibrating might work, though this material sets up so fast I'm not sure if it would have time. Mix to set time is about 2 minutes. Barely enough time to stir it.

Vacuum would work better, but I don't have a vacuum jar or pump large enough.

I want to try strengthening the large bushing leaves a bit, too. & may try cast-in-place molding that would cast them right onto the large rods instead of epoxying them, though that's down the road.

I used the grommets and its working thus far. Then again, the car is still in my shop so I used the lights a total of 2 times haha

Your replacements look great!

My lights make a loud clunking noise when they close, this may address the issue, count me in on a set.

So is this something I could buy from you? Because i want to flip my lights up and down as opposed to keeping them up all the time.

Now that I've got SevenStock out of the way & have closed out some other time drains I was involved with, I'm going to pick this project up again.

I could make you a "beta" set using the current molds, if I still have a supply of urethane (will check). Can't offer any guarantees on longevity, though - Mine are holding up OK still, but I think the design can be better.

For immediate use, use the grommets.

Divin, when you get these done let me know. I'd like to make a section on my tutorial website with member designed products for sale.
