headlight reminder chime part II

i had posted a thread on this elusive sucker over a year ago and this thing still evades me. i got some mixed answers the first time. i was then directed to this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/unknown-item-back-gauge-cluster-420338/ to no avail, the answers were confusing and i couldnt get a solid answer on what exactly happens to make the headlight chime "click" instead of chime like its supposed to. the chime is in fact located behind the cluster. you can hear it as plain as day in my 85 GSL. my 84 SE is just clicking, not chiming. which part behind the cluster is the chime? from there, i can trace it back to the headlight switch and the door pin switch. between that wiring and the wiring to the switch and cluster, something is array. perhaps the chime has a bad ground. thats kinda what im leading to but i cant diagnose the problem if i dont know where to look. the FSM was of no help on that particular problem. any thoughts?

I think it has something to do with the Oscillator. It's located just forward of the battery and is labeled.

On my 1985 GSL, I had never heard any warning beep from low coolant or headlights on... On my recently acquired 1985 GS, I was amazed that it had these warning beeps...

If you pull out the gauge cluster, the chime is the silver box that is mounted to the back of the cluster. Easy to swap and check.

Most cases the chime is probably just worn out. You really can't expect something like that to work perfectly after 20+ years. Thats just not realistic IMO. Find a cluster with a working chime and swap that in.
