so do u think a dual exhaust setup is better or a single line exhaust setup is better? is there any advantage of collecting before the muffler?

i'll probably do the same thing, but when i pick up some thicker exhaust piping, how should i put it togeather,

by welding the pipes togeather, getting flanges welded on. or use he old school clamp method

How is it impractical? My 85 has duals that collect just before the muffler, and I wouldn't say I've had any exhaust problems at all. Engine is completely unported (but will receive a streetport soon).

i personally feel it is impractical. if it was worth it, mazda probably would have included duals in a sports package. how many fds do you see with duals? and many high performance fcs hane single exhaust. i think that with 2 exhaust ports, 1 pipe is enought, if it was a 4 rotor engine it would be different.

I never said *not* to get the presilencer..

I just didn't think you'd wanna shell out the cash for one right now! So I figure, buy some thick pipe for now instead of the presilencer, ghetto-it-up, and pay for the presilencer later, when you've got the extra $$ laying around.

The presilencer is definitely a GREAT investment, but if you can't afford it, get the headers first.

Very impressed with my Racing Beat Setup.... full RB all the way back. Sounds low and throaty. Going through a tunnel is awesome!!!

I would thing a dual is better simply because you get less resistance. ON THE OTHER HAND, we all know that all engines need a certain amount of backpressure, which is why in my case, I'm actually loosing power because I got this huge leek.
So basicly, I would think, if you don't have a very big intake of air, you don't need a very big output. If you've got turbos and stuff, then that's not the same ! You've got alot of air comming in, meening you'll have alot wanting to come out. This info is just from my basic knowleage, if you guys know NE better, PLEASE correc me!

I , personally, will probably get the appropirate gaskets, then for the rest use a good exhaust ciment to temporarilly hold it down, also using clamps, then weld the whole thing together... I want the BEST seal !

I`am also running a single exhaust. I have never seen a dual exhaust Rotary in South Africa before ,and we do have some really high hp NA ,and Turbo cars here. I mean if i look at the pics of the `80`s track cars, they all had a single exhaust, huge, but single. I recall clearly that most of them had a megaphone ,going from 2 " header to 4 maybe even 4 1/2 pipe.

Just my 2 cents. (my header is also based on a RB single pipe)

I still wouldn`t see the need to get duals. for the price it`s gonna cost and the brains you`ll have to use to figure out where and how to put all the piping, a single, maybe 3" exhaust seems more then enough. I get a nice tight sound with strong constant engine power out of my single 2" with RB header setup. Why go more?
