Header wrap good, bad or ugly?

Just wondering if any one has used header wrap successfully. My gut feeling is no and that it would probably melt off. I have a R.B. road race header on a 13B. If you have had good luck what brand didi you use. Thanks

Header wrap is bad stuff.

It causes the header to rapidly fail (warping/cracking/flaking) because all of the exhaust heat is held in. The header can't air-cool.

Jet-Hot doesn't cause these problems because the *inside* is coated as well, and this helps prevent the metal from getting hot in the first place.

The good- It keeps much of the heat in the header.

The bad- outlined by peejay

The ugly- well, its ugly..................

I've heard it both ways. I've been using it for several years, both on the header for my old 12A and on my current downpipe for my turbo. I've had no problems with it. It cooled down the engine bay tremendously.

would putting the old heat shield from the thermal reactor/exhaust manifold help cool things down?

In my opinion, a heat shield is better than a wrap. It doesn't have to be extravagant. Just something to deflect the heat from the exhaust/turbo.
