Header install What's the rest of the story
Gentlemen
Been working on my 84 RX-7 GSL-SE, 90K and looking and running well aside from the normal flooding issues.
Some of the original exhaust parts are beginning to come apart and was considering the jump to a RB header set up.
I've been looking through the forums and was wondering what other modifications would be required with this transition to headers. Does engine management computer require reprograming to get the expected HP Gain? Does the air pump have to go as well?
I assume after reading the great how to's here on the forums that this is primarily a bolt on procedure that is relatively painless (as painless as any exhaust work can be. ?!@#$ those rusted bolts)
What else has to happen before I consider taking the leap?

It is pretty straight forward.
Yes, you remove the air pump or at least the belt. Install the block off plate for the ACV that is supplied with the RB header and smile when you feel all of the extra HP. I presume that you are going with the complete system or at least with the Header and the pre-silencer?
Recommend that you spray down the bolts way in advance as they have a tendency to be a pain and can even require being torched or cut off. I would replace the bolts with stainless steel ones. :-)

Heat Shield etc
I think tat I would like to go with the complete Racing Beat system.
Do you know if the Racing Beat header system comes with heat shielding as well as the ACV block off plate?
Would most likely loose the air pump and put a dual pully on the alternator to clean up the belts. I've seen it here on one of the documented builds; but, don't remember where you can find these pullies for the alternator?
Also I've got to ask the required emissions questions. Is there a date past which our "Classic" cars are no longer required emissions testing.

As far as I know, the RB set-up does not come with any shielding, just the ACV block-off plate. RB sells the pulleys that you are looking for. As far as emissions is concerned, that is going to vary from state to state. You will have to check the laws in your state.

Save some money on the pulley and grab the one in this thread from a local alternator shop:

Also, the full RB kit comes with the block off plates. The heat shield is separate. If I remember right, the RB heat shield only works with their intake manifolds. ReSpeed makes one that will work with the stock manifold, but its not listed on their site. You will have to email them.
