First thing - Read what your wrote ... exactly as its written ... Make sense?

Second - Do you have emissions? Your asking about a test pipe - give me a little more --

There is no problem with what you're doing bud. The air pump will just make some ugly noises when its not hooked up. I did the same thing as you are talking about and the air pump as far as I know does nothing detrimental to the motor. Most people on here will tell ya to do a yahoo belt or dual sheeve install to keep the alternator from slipping but I didn't and I haven't heard the alternator slip once in the 3 months I've been driving this way, on the road or on the street.

I did the same for about 3 years. Last month I did switch to a dual belt pulley on the alt and removed just the air pump and ACV using a block off plate. I left the rats nest intact.

dump the cat = Throw the cat into the nearest dumpster
Putting a test pipe= welding up a pipe where the cat used to be
get rid of the air pump= take the useless air pump out and zoom zoom it in the same dumpster as the cat
..and no my vehicle doesnt need to pass an emission test

...Thanks for the link 74RX4 pictures and everything!!

......SUPER82... i dont really want to put a lawn mower belt on unless i absolutely have to so how did you compleate your air pump removal ...are you only running 1
belt?

Thanks for the hizzelp people

You can grab that pulley from any alternator store for around $20. Part number is here: http://foxed.ca/rx-7/WAI%20PART%20DESCRIPTION.pdf

Now that is what im talking about looks very clean....... thanks for the part number for the pully what type of belts did you use?? and is there any plumbing required from the air pump ? do you just close off the line leading into the air pump once the air pump is removed?

Thanks

-Take off air pump. Plug up the two tubes on the airbox that the air pump connected to. You don't really need to cap off the grey plastic tube on the side of the airbox, but I did anyway (This comes from the Air Control Valve, from the outlet of the airpump, i am getting ahead of myself a bit here). The main one is the metal tube on the front of the airbox, as it leads into the filtered side. Just cap it off with a cork.
Cork with plastic cap can be seen here:

-Next, unplug two connectors on the ACV. Remove previously mentioned hose from gray plastic on airbox and then remove two bolts and one nut holding on ACV. It can be stuck on there pretty good, so a dead blow mallet can be helpful. You should see:

Remove the stud on the top with a pair of vice grips or similar.

-Either make a ACV blockoff plate or buy one from RB, you will need new (shorter) bolts and a ACV gasket as well:

You will need to make a blockoff plate for the tube going to the cats as well. RB sells one but I dont see it on their site.

-Now take your pick with the belts. As I said, I used the dual pulley, and two new standard rx-7 alt belts. Don't be cheap and mix old and new belts, one may have stretched some.

Since I don't have AC or PS, I also removed the extra pulleys from the e-shaft.

part # 16204 for the cat + plate

I have a 82
for some reason RB doesnt have a package like this for a 81-83 but they sell the gasket whats that about..... part # for 81-83 test pipe gasket 16315
So now im thinking why not make my own plate and get a test pipe done for $50 bucks at my friends shop..... ill try to get a gasket from the dealership tommorow and take it to a machine shop to get a solid stamp, i have no idea if it will be sufficient for a block off plate but i need the gasket any ways.

That cat replacement pipe is listed for the 84/85 automatics... You are probably better off getting your friend to make one.

RB part for the block off plate is 16325, $10

These guys have a pipe for your application, $75. No idea on how well it works though. http://rx7.com/store/rx7/saexhaust.html

I make my own block off plates out of 1/4" aluminum, mostly because someone gave me a large sheet of it. 1/8" mild steel works just as well. Plates are easy to make by simply using the gasket for a pattern.

You can also cut the flanges off the cat and use them on your test pipe.
The remaining portion of the cat is worth a few dollars to recyclers (platinum inside).

Shipping is going to kill you. Go to Canadian Tire or something. Same stuff, much cheaper by the time shipping and duty and exchange is factored in.

Yeah, doesn't need to be perfect, just roughly the right shape. It just has to cover properly. Also, use stiff enough metal for a good seal.

Of course, post pictures once its done.

I use a battery powered saber saw, drill and bench grinder. In lieu of a saber saw, I've seen people use a hacksaw blade with tape wrapped around one end for a handle. Sometimes you can pick up an electric saber saw at a garage sale for under 10 bucks or try a pawn shop.
