header cover (where to buy)

I am looking for a sheet metal cover that fits underneath the intake and above the header. Any sites w/pics would be hella good, thanks.

The heat shield has a tube that runs off it to the underside of the air horn. Under cold conditions the bi-metal spring closes off the outside cold air with a flapper valve, and allows the engine to ingest warmer air taken from around the headers.

basicly to keep the heat away from the intake, so they dont heat up as much and the air inside is cooler and also to keep some heat around the exhuast, a hotter exhaust gets better extraction. thats why some people wrap that whiite fiberglass meterial around em.

When I installed my RB header, I used the old top piece of the thermal reactor shroud to make a heat shield and also to provide a mount for the carb pre-heater hose. I just realized my digital camera is in my wife's glove box at her work, but I'll post a picture a little later today so you can see what I'm talking about. -WG

i did the same thing, i just had to cut a little bit of the bottom of the cover out to fit the new headers in because they come down a little lower, but it fits good.

Dang it! I keep forgetting to get my digital camera out of my wife's glove box, but I'll go get it today and post some pics. I didn't have to do any cutting at all to get the old thermal reactor shroud to fit, just had to add an "L" bracket to replace the spot-welded one that broke off.

Yup, mine looks pretty much like that, except for the steering box!
What is that piping in the foreground?

Okay, finally got it together, sorry for the wait!
Djmickyg, why do you still have that ACV? Get rid of that sucker, and block off the hole as shown. Or can you do that on the Australian models? -WG

Cool...seems easy enough. Whaddya got that hose running to? Mine was run over in the driveway and is all smooshed at one end. (the hose, not the shield). Oh, yeah, and I notice in your pic that you used the three new screws that came w/ the block off plate..when I took my acv off, there were studs still there that i used, and used the original nuts...is that a bad idea? Soon as the temp gets over 15F, I'm copying you. Thanx again

The top end of the hose goes to the bottom of the air cleaner housing to provide warm air to the carb to keep it from icing up in the cold. I took the ACV mounting studs out of the manifold simply because they were a bit long and I didn't want to use a stack of washers to make it work. The only modification I had to do to the old heatshield was to mount an "L" bracket to replace the old spot-welded rear one that broke off. I also drilled a hole and ran a sheet metal screw in the front mount to reinforce it. Pretty dang simple, eh? -WG

Believe it or not its been on there for 2,000 miles now and its doing the job. I've been surprised it hasn't burnt up yet, but I've been checking. I plan on doing something more permanent, but I wanted the protection until I got around to it. (Been worried about the heat messing up the 6-port actuators)
