Hi all,
i use my 7 as a second car mostly street but i do some drag and track days and im looking to upgrade from the standard brakes
im about to but some Hawk HP plus pads how do people rate these agaist others? i heard they are very good
i already have stainless lines to fit
also want to go with new discs/rotors (x drilled and grooved) can anyone recormend a supply or had good performance from thier discs/rotors?

dude i love hawks, they work wonders, a bit dusty at times, but they bite so well if you bed them properly. ive used them on every car ive ever owned and even gotten a few friends to get into them...

 

Street driving and most drags do not need anything more than a stock disc. Hawk HP pads are great for the street, I run them on mine. Dusty, like said before, but good pads. If you can lock up your brakes, you don't need any more oomph. The times that you do brake hard will not gather and keep enough heat to require drilled/slotted/carbon etc brakes. Those are mostly good for track days, where you have high speeds and constant braking.

 

I ran the same setup years ago on my car and it stopped superbly.The HP's bite very well,but like the guys said they dusted quite a bit and mine would squeal from time to time......all part of the game.
The Brembo X-driled rotors never gave me any trouble,although their special characteristics (outgassing,pad cleaning) arent really needed on a streetcar.However,they can be cheaper than factory stock rotors sometimes, and the zinc coating keeps them looking nice.Like Jeezus said,if you can lock up the tires,then you have all the brakes you need for the tires/weight you are running.Improvments after that should involve keeping your braking consistant by not overheating anything after repeated,prolonged use.

 

If your car is your daily car, i would get the HPS instead of the HP+. The HP+ brake dust is crazy, you have to clean your wheels all the time and the pads make your car sound like a 18 wheeler trying to stop.

 

pssh you should be keepin your car clean regardless. so wash away!

I have x-drilled and slotted rotors, and HPS pads. no problems yet. But I will be going back to stock rotors once these wear out, too expensive and I'd rather have the extra mass and surface area. And my Freightliner doesn't make much noise when I get on the brakes.

 

good tires, good rotors, Hawk HP+, stainless lines, ATE Super Blue - you need nothing more!

 

Car is a second car weekends, drag and track stuff, and it is usually always clean!!

So where would you recormend getting the rotors / discs from? i have s/s lines and can get hawk hp or hp+ pads just need to sort the rotors / discs now

Anyone used the Axxis ceramic pads?
these guys do a good package would go for the dimpled and grooved rotors with Axxis ceramic pads
anyone used this company?

HI,

I've never used hawk hp pads but hear that they are good. I wouldn't use Hawk blues, unless you plan on getting the brakes good, and hot. I had a set on my spec7, and left them on for street use, but found out that they cut grooves in rotors unless they get some real heat in them. I don't know how hard you plan on taxing your brakes but a good set of ceramic pads should do the job, along with a set of brembo blanks. Hope this helps,
