Having trouble getting my gas tank back in.
I pulled out the tank (85 GSL-SE) to repair some leaks. I'm trying to put it back in but the bolts that hold on the straps won't reach. I think it must be seated wrong or something, but I've shifted it around every which way, but without luck. I left the little pad on top and it doesn't look like it's interfering. Any ideas? has anyone else had this problem.
Thanks

Remove both ends of both straps. Put the fuel tank on a jack so it's pushed firmly up into position (I used a piece of plywood on the jack to protect the tank). Start all the bolts so they have a few threads of engagement. Tighten all the bolts.
I just installed mine a few hours ago.

I position the tank with a jack and board like elwood mentioned. Start the rear bolts making sure you have the lip on the tank above the lip on the rear straps like the picture. The front end of the straps has a small L shaped lip which will slip over a small lip on the bracket they attach to. This will hold the straps in place and allow you to fasten the bolts.
