Having hard time starting my 1982 RX7
Hey Guys,
Got a 1982 Mazda RX7 with a 12A stock motor in it, had it for a few months now. It used to be able to start quite fast but now its taking an aweful long time.
It kicks now and then and will kick straight away after it has just been running but from a morning start, requires alot of effort and battery power. Choke is full out.
I took the spark plugs out, doesn't seem to be flooding (plugs were dry?) but the plugs were quite black. Am going to do a spark plug test later I think to narrow it down.
Checked the fuel pump, seems to be pumping, not sure on pressure. The filter I have just before the carb only sits at about 1/3 full though on ignition. Dunno if its meant to fill up full or is this normal?
Also what is the sight glass on the carb mean't to sit at? ATM it is about half way.
I suspect its either spark plugs or no fuel.. Just wondering on some things I should check after if it aint the plugs or if anyone can give me some info on what could be wrong?
Thanks,
Wol

If the plugs are black, you may be running too rich, or too low of constant rpms, or perhaps even too much pre-mix.
Sight glasses on the carb should be at the 1/2 way mark, that's the float levels. You should have a fuel filter between the fuel tank and pump by the left rear wheel.
Welcome to the forum and the Darkside. In my sig line is a link to the online FSMs, carb manuals, etc..
