12 a carbs

are all 12a carbs the same 81-85? i looked for hours in archives.

I have 2 from ym old Rx's, and they LOOK different, dont know about anything else. They could have been modified for all i know.

79-80 were different from later years. 81-85 are the same.

There are 6 different version of 1st gen carbs. 3 basic ones, then each CA version is slightly different.

to elaborate
79 to 80
81 to 83
83 to 85

and then each set had a californian counterpart due to emissions

but with some fiddling any one will work

thanks. the 85 12a that i have has a cracked bowl and it leaks bad. found a really good one at parts yard but its an 81. i bought it for 15$ so its a steal as far as i am concerned. when you different you mean like relays and vaccum connects? stuff i can plug i presume?

The biggest difference to note between the 2 you have is the altitude compensater. Most of the other differences are minor. If you remove the rats nest, it will make little/no diff which carb you use.

If you study the online factory carb manual, you can pick out most of the differences, except for the jet sizing that's not listed.
