This example was taken to the extreme, but on high revving/horsepower applications the stock float bowl on a weber IDA can be bleed dry and leave you with a serious lean situation on rotary engines. I dont know if this problem exists on side draft carbs. There are two fixes for the problem one is to enlarge the float bowl capacity the other it to get a larger needle valve.
I did both on mine, but I did the internal expansion increasing capacity from 95cc to 120cc. I also have a 3.5 needle valve, so hopefully with any luck I will not have a problem with fuel starvation.

I think the dremel is one of the best inventions of the 20th century.

Hey wacky,

I like the oil cap on the first picture and the clean set up on the second. Man my under hood right now is just an opened up carb with some rags over it right now. Hopefully I will be putting it back together next week. Thurday-ish, if I'm lucky.

Can you do me a big favor????? I dont know if you have any control over your fuel pump but if you have time in the next week can you pull the air filter off one of your IDA's and with the car off but fuel pump on, pull one of the emulsion tubes out (preferably the one near the fire wall) and look inside and tell me the fuel level inside the vacant hole in relation to the venturie port.
That will give me a reference in getting my float level set. being that the filled floats I have been working with dont work on weber settings since they are heavier and who knows how the one above will need to be set at. Damn guessing game
Thanks,
Sean
