have to push it to start

I have a 1985 gsl and Last night I was out for a drive and busted the coolent hose that runs from the bottom of the beehive into the fire wall. As soon as I noticed the problem I looked at my temp guage and saw that it was just about at the last notch right before the over heat mark and shut the car down right away. Fixing the hose was not a problem but when I tried to start the car after fixing it nothing happens. The starter is not even cranking. The only noise I hear when I turn the key is the small electric motor for the cold start assist starting up. So now I have 2 questions.
1) Does anyone have any idea why a broken coolent line would cause something in the ignition system to crap out?
2) Is it normal to hear the cold start assist go every time you try to crank the engin?
Thanks for any info you might be able to pass my way
Steve

Sounds like you did over heat it, very bad. I hope you didn't do any permanent damage.

as for the starter not cranking, i have no idea

good luck,

It's probably not overheated. The starter is below and further rearward than the beehive. Some coolant probably went into it. Yum.

check the starter wires down there, heat could have melted them or you might have knocked some wiring lose doing the repairs.

Thanks for posting what the solution was. Most times it doesnt happen. I suppose most people are just happy that it was fixed.
