hatch modifications
I know there are a lot of crafty individuals on these forums. I was wondering if anyone in here has ever made a mariah type hatch or anything similar

I don't personally like the Honda Del-Sol look. I really don't think there is anything that would look good on a 7. But I just like the classic lines of the 7 too much to change it drasticly like that.

I used to hate it when I first saw it, but over time I've actually started thinking it looked pretty neat, just dont like how tiny the back window is on the mariah one. but its not for my car anyway, its for my wifes, and when you're lucky enough to have a wife that wants her own FB, you don't complain about her wanting to "personalize" it

Why replace an integrated, streamlined part with one that adds weight, increases drag, decreases storage area, and makes your car look like a kit?

You should really do whatever she wants with the car - that's part of the fun of owning a revival classic. I wanted to update the looks of my car, since I own an 80LS and this 84SE and decided that I grew tired of the retro looks. I picked a 20-year newer paint color straight from the Mazda factory chip charts and started building the car that I wanted to drive. It's a multi-year project, but when you get done with it, you're the only one that needs to like how it looks.

I've got just enough redneck in my blood to want to get a beater FB (not the GS, she's my baby) and make it into a caruck. Use a Maraiah style rear window and run steel from that down so the cabin ends right behind the seats with just enough space to open the bins. From there the hatch interior needs to be stripped and some steel laid down to form a bed. Seal the rear well to protect the taillights and add a decent drain in the rear and in the spare tire well.
If you look at line on the B-pillar this would give it a bit of a rearward rake. It would also give you enough space to haul around larger parts. Not quite as nice as a REPU, but it could mean making a junked out 7 useful.
