has any body tried to use a q-jet?

just wondering if anyone has tried to use a rochester q-jet on a rotary? i know the bad rep they have as a performance carb. but i like em especially the sound of the huge secondaries. is this even worth tring? i can weld aluminum and im not a bad fabricator but is this over my head?

If you did make a custom manifold made to mount the qjet. Would you want to keep the runners separated from barrel to port. The trouble I see is that primary and secondary ports tend to be pretty close in area on 4 ports. It's a different story for 6 ports though. Maybe a qjet on a six port would allow good low speed operation and high peak cfm. Otherwise you may want to merge and split the primary and secondary passages to ballance the flow. The small primary barrels of the qjet may give good torque and milage. How well do you thing the carb will work sideways. This seems to be an issue for carbs intended for the V8. How deep is the float bowl and how close are the jets to the center of the bowl? Maybe while you are fabing the manifold you can figure out a way to twist it and straighten the carb orientation.

You don't need a custom manifold. Get a RB holley manifold and find a square bore to spread bore adapter. They do make them in a separated format.
